Archbishop Joseph Tobji of Aleppo met yesterday Archbishop Stanislaw Gądecki, President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. Archbishop Tobji thanked for the support that the Church in Poland shows to the Syrians, especially the residents of Aleppo, so much affected by the war.

„We are pleased to be welcomed by His Excellency because he cares about our sufferings in Aleppo, the Church in Aleppo and all Christians. We would like to thank him and through him we would like to thank the entire Polish Bishops’ Conference. We also ask for your prayer, because only the Lord can save us, so we must intensify our prayers” – said Archbishop Tobji.

“Aleppo is well known in our country because it is the symbol of the ruin of all Syria in a certain sense, the most affected place during this war that has lasted for more than 5 years, I think. So we are always grateful to all those who somehow got in touch with ‘Family to Family’ program. It is a very important program because it keeps us close to those in Syria, much more than just the so-called symbolic presence” – said President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. And he added: “I am also sure that we will pray for the Church in Syria which is truly seriously conflict-affected”.

Over 1,100 Syrian families who were harmed in the war are taken care of by Poles participating in the “Family to Family” program. The campaign, together with Caritas Polska, was inaugurated at the beginning of October 2016 by the President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, who in February 2016 visited Syria personally.
