A Divine Mercy image made of selfie photographs presented on a huge canvas during World Youth Day event in Krakow, south Poland, will be exhibited next to the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in the Krakow district Lagiewniki until mid-November. Under the previous arrangements, it was meant to be presented there till the end of August.

Konrad Ciempka, the project originator, told PAP on September 31 that the large format mosaic looked particularly good at the entrance to St Faustyna auditorium in Lagiewniki and was visible to numerous pilgrims. Will the mosaic stay there permanently? The place of its permanent exhibition will be discussed with nuns at the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Lagiewniki, Ciempka says.

The image was made by youth from the Christ community in Stare Miasto and nuns at the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in the Krakow district Lagiewniki. The project aim was to „bind people from all over the world.”

Among the contributors to the project was Polish President Andrzej Duda and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda, who had sent in a picture of themselves.

As the project co-organiser Katarzyna Walkowska told PAP many people who would like to come to Krakow for WYD could not come, and by sending in their picture they had been able to participate in this great event.

The photographs to make up the image were sent in online. As the project  “Paint the painting” met with such a great interest its organisers decided to continue it. “Selfie photographs can still be sent via image2016.pl site. They will be used in another, even bigger Divine Mercy image,” Ciempka says.

Selfies to make up a new image can be sent until November 20, when the Holy Year of Mercy ends. The project organisers do not know yet where the new image will be presented.

World Youth Day 2016 took place in and around Krakow on July 26-31. Pope Francis participated in the event on July 27-31. „Blessed are the merciful for they will be shown mercy” was this year’s WYD motto. (PAP)
