Protection of the life of each person, nationwide Church celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Poland’s regaining independence and the election of the Church Personal Data Inspector – these were the main issues raised at the session of the Permanent Council of the Polish Episcopate, which took place at Jasna Góra on May 2, 2018.

The Communication from the session of the Permanent Council of the Polish Bishops’ Conference
On May 2, the session of the Permanent Council of the Polish Bishops’ Conference took place at Jasna Góra. The session was presided by Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference.
During the session, it was stressed, among other things, that the mission of the Church is to protect the life of every human being at all stages of its existence, because every human life is a gift of God. Therefore, as in the past, the Church will intercede for the life of every human being, and in particular for the lives of the most vulnerable – the unborn children and people with disabilities.
The Church joins the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of Poland’s regaining independence. The Permanent Council of the Polish Bishops’ Conference renews the invitation to the nationwide Church celebrations, which will be the following Holy Masses for the Homeland: May 3 at Jasna Góra, the feast of Our Lady, Queen of Poland; May 13 in Cracow, the memorial of St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr; June 3, Thanksgiving Feast in the Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw; November 11, National Independence Day, also in the Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw.
The Catholic Church attaches great importance to the protection of personal data. In connection with the fact that the European Union regulations related to it enter into force on May 25, April 30, 2018, was promulgated – previously approved by the Holy See – the General Decree on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data in the Catholic Church. During the session of the Permanent Council, Fr. Dr. Piotr Kroczek, professor at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow, was elected to the duties of the Church Personal Data Inspector. At the same time, the bishops recall that at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, the Postgraduate Studies – Personal Data Protection in the Church were launched.
