“I am addressing to all my compatriots with a fervent appeal for spreading peace in our society, because the development of individual and social life requires peace”, said Archbishop Stanislaw Gadecki, President of the Polish Bishop’s Conference, in his Christmas Message broadcast by TVP.

The President of the Polish Bishop’s Conference noted that for some time “in the public debate, as well as in private relationships and even in family life, one can notice an alarming increase in social tension and disrespect among Poles towards people with different views, which is accompanied by the brutalization of language as well as emerging threats and aggressive behaviours”. That is why the President called on Poles to spread peace in the society because “after all, the development of individual and social life requires peace”.

Archbishop Gadecki also pointed out that “external peace, peace in our families, in social groups and in the Homeland is born in the life of society from the preservation of God’s commandments, from the moral and ethical order”.

At the end, the President of the Polish Bishop’s Conference, who is also Metropolitan of Poznan, reminded that in 2018 the Diocese of Poznan will celebrate the 1050th anniversary of its founding as the oldest diocese in Poland. At the ceremony are invited presidents of the Bishop’s Conferences of all Europe, who will be debating in Poznan on the current tasks of the Church in Europe on September, 13-16.
