Msgr. Andrzej Siemieniewski, hitherto Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Wrocław, was appointed Bishop of the diocese of Legnica. At the same time, the Holy Father Francis accepted the resignation of Msgr.  Zbigniew Kiernikowski from the post of Bishop of Legnica. The Pope’s decision was announced today at noon by the Holy See.

Bishop Andrzej Siemieniewski was born on 8 August 1957 in Wrocław. He was ordained a priest on 1 June 1985 in Wrocław, appointed Bishop on 5 January 2006, and consecrated on 11 February 2006.

Professor of Theological Sciences, habilitated Doctor of Theology (Spirituality) at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Wrocław, Doctor of Theology of the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

Delegate of the Polish Bishops’ Conference for the Association “Families of Nazareth” as well as for the Federation of Church Libraries “Fides,” Member of the Team for contacts with the Polish Ecumenical Council (for relations with the Polish Christian Forum), and Member of the Episcopate’s Scientific Council.
