“We thank the Lord God and Our Lady of Fatima for having saved the life of the Polish Pope and, hence, for his long pontificate, which has strongly marked the history of the universal Church and the world,” said the President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Stanislaw Gądecki, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the assassination attempt on the life of the Holy Father John Paul II, which fell on May 13th this year.

The President of the Episcopate has invited everyone to join the main anniversary celebrations at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Polanica-Zdrój Sokołówka at 5:00 p.m. “We will be there together to give thanks, through the hands of Mary, for the miracle of the Holy Father’s survival and for all the graces that the Lord God has sent us through the person of our great and holy Compatriot,” he noted.
