Good is always greater than evil, there is more good in the world, because good is a path of love, and love comes from God, because God is love – said Archbishop Jan Romeo Pawłowski, Delegate for Pontifical Representations, on August 15 at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Jasna Góra, during the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Poland.
Over 60,000 faithful, who came to Jasna Góra in walking pilgrimages, participated in the solemn Eucharist. Most were pilgrims from Warsaw.
“Jasna Góra has always gathered Poles, it is the spiritual throne of the Queen of Poland, the national Sanctuary, the spiritual capital. As St. John Paul II used to say, a frequent pilgrim to this place: «Poles are used to coming to Jasna Góra … because here the heart of the Nation beats in the heart of the Mother. Because here we have always been free». And here we are free!” – said Archbishop Pawłowski.
In his homily, Archbishop Pawłowski said: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Create good, act well, live well. Even if they were to make fun of us, point finger at us, punish us, we shall do good. Because good, beauty and love are our paths of earthly pilgrimage”.
In this year’s pilgrimage season, from May 12 to August 14, 182 walking pilgrimages came to Jasna Góra, in which participated 86,000 pilgrims. It is over 4,000 pilgrims more than last year.
In the celebration of the centenary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Poland also Israeli Ambassador took part. “Peace and happiness for everyone are the most important. I wish this the most” – said Anna Azari.
Today’s thanksgiving celebration at Jasna Góra marks the next step of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Poland. The main celebration took place on March 13 this year in the Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw with the participation of the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. On this occasion, a post stamp was also issued. In turn, on June 6, in the gardens of the Apostolic Nunciature in Warsaw, a monument of Achilles Ratti, the first nuncio in independent Poland and later Pope Pius XI, was unveiled.
