Following formal reports, the Holy See – acting in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Canon Law and the Motu Proprio Vos Estis Lux Mundi – has conducted proceedings concerning the reported negligence of Bishop Zbigniew Kiernikowski in a case of sexual abuse against a minor by a priest of the Diocese of Siedlce, led by Msgr. Kiernikowski from 2002 to 2014.

After completing this procedure, bearing in mind the difficulties in managing the Diocese of Legnica, Msgr. Zbigniew Kiernikowski resigned from his ministry, and the Holy Father accepted his resignation today.
