Close to 1,300 World Youth Day pilgrims will visit the Ulma Family Museum of Poles Saving Jews in World War II in Markowa, south Poland, museum head Mateusz Szpytma informed PAP Wednesday.

The group will include pilgrims from Argentina, China, Egypt, Guatemala, France, Canada, Kazakhstan, Germany, the US, Uruguay and Italy.

Szpytma said over 19,000 people visited the museum since its opening three months ago, around 10-15 percent of them foreigners, mainly young Israelis.

Visits to the museum have also been paid by British Special Envoy for post-Holocaust Issues Eric Pickles, US Ambassador to Poland Paul Jones, and journalists from among others France, Britain, Belarus and Spain.

The Ulma Family Museum of Poles Saving Jews in World War II commemorates Poles who risked their lives to save Jews from the Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Poland. Its patrons are the Ulma family from Markowa, executed by the Nazis in 1944 together with their six children for hiding Jewish families on their farm. (PAP)
