No problems with Brzegi WYD site - minister

There are no reports of problems with the World Youth Day site in Brzegi by Krakow (south Poland), Interior Minister Mariusz Blaszczak told a press conference Friday.

The conference was organised in connection with Thursday's terrorist attack in Nice, France, in which 84 people died.

Asked if the WYD organisers were not considering relocating the Brzegi festivities for security reasons, Blaszczak said locality had no influence on security and reminded that Brzegi had been selected for the WYD celebrations many months ago. He added that much had been done to make the site safe and that security services have not reported any troubles with it.

Blaszczak informed that Polish border services were equipped to carry out online checks on terrorism suspects online and that such persons will be spotted if they tried to enter Poland.

Commenting the Nice attack, Blaszczak said that "conclusions must be drawn from what was happening", and assured that he did not intend to expose Poles to threats.

On July 30 the pope will arrive at the Misericordiae Campus in Brzegi near Krakow where he will take part in a prayer vigil. On July 31, the last day of his visit to Poland, Pope Francis will celebrate there a mass for WYD participants. (PAP)
