The Spokesman of the Polish Bishops’ Conference is elected by the Plenary Assembly for five years, with the possibility of serving successive terms. He maintains contact with journalists, facilitating their access to information on the activities of the Polish Episcopate. He also supports the bishops in their contacts with the media and manages the Press Office of the Polish Bishops’ Conference.
Fr. Leszek Gęsiak, Jesuit, religious scholar, media expert, PhD in social sciences in the discipline of social communication and media sciences, professor at Ignatianum University in Krakow. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1985 and was ordained a priest in 1996. More He completed his studies in philosophy at the Philosophical Faculty of the Society of Jesus in Krakow, in theology at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology “Bobolanum” in Warsaw, and specialized studies in theology in the field of ecumenical ecclesiology at the Institut Centre Sèvres in Paris. He obtained his doctorate at the Institute of Religious Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He obtained his postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in social sciences in the discipline of social communication and media sciences at the Institute of Social Communication and Media Sciences of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. Among other things, he was editor-in-chief of the Catholic Monthly “Messenger” and head of the Polish Section of Vatican Radio. In 2020, he was elected Spokesman of the Polish Bishops’ Conference.
