Statement
of the Spokesman of the Polish Bishops’ Conference

On 11 March 2026, during its 404th Plenary Assembly, the Polish Bishops’ Conference adopted the Rules of Operation of the Commission of Independent Experts for the Investigation of the Phenomenon of Sexual Abuse of Minors in the Catholic Church in Poland and the Statute of the Commission of Independent Experts for the Investigation of the Phenomenon of Sexual Abuse of Minors in the Catholic Church in Poland.

After adopting these documents, the Polish Bishops’ Conference established the Commission of Independent Experts for the Investigation of the Phenomenon of Sexual Abuse of Minors in the Catholic Church in Poland and granted it public legal personality, and – after consultation with the Conference of Major Superiors of Male Religious Orders in Poland and the Conference of Major Superiors of Female Religious Congregations in Poland – approved the previously adopted statute.

The bishops also approved the Agreement concerning the establishment of the Commission of Independent Experts for the Investigation of the Phenomenon of Sexual Abuse of Minors in the Catholic Church in Poland, to be concluded between the Polish Bishops’ Conference, the Conference of Major Superiors of Male Religious Orders in Poland, and the Conference of Major Superiors of Female Religious Congregations in Poland.

The texts of the above-mentioned documents will be made public and discussed during a press conference after the conclusion of the Plenary Assembly on 12 March 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
