Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski, one of the closest collaborators of St. John Paul II, sent a letter to Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski with words of support, solidarity and gratitude for the consistent proclamation of the Word of God.
We publish the whole letter:
Your Excellency,
Dear Archbishop,
I am very sorry to hear about groundless attacks on your person because of the homily given on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. For my part, I do not see anything inappropriate in the content of this homily, but, on the contrary, a realistic interpretation of reality and a sense of responsibility which guided you in defending the truth and good and God’s law against the currently imposed ideology. In the name of this ideology, extremely vulgar offenses to the holiest things for us have been allowed: the Eucharist, the Blessed Virgin Mary and the priesthood. These blasphemous behavior affected me painfully. The Eucharist, the Blessed Virgin Mary and Christ’s priesthood are the objects of living faith and the deepest love of the vast majority of Poles. Everyone is entitled to respect, everyone also has the right to publicly express their opinion and views, while the attitudes of contempt and offense are worth condemning.
Dear Archbishop Marek, please accept my sincere appreciation for your intelligent and devoted pastoral ministry. I pray for you and I ask the Lord that your episcopal commitment bring rich fruit for the good of the Archdiocese of Cracow and for the good of Poland. Bearing in mind the teaching of Jesus (Mt 5:44; Lk 6: 27-28), I also pray for those who offend us.
With fraternal greetings in the Lord,
+ Zenon Cardinal Grocholewski
