The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrated on August 15 and the anniversary of the Miracle on the Vistula is an opportunity to thank God for Mary’s protection over our Homeland and apologize for what is bad on our part - said the spokesman of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Fr. Paweł Rytel-Andrianik.
Fr. Rytel-Andrianik stressed that “the Assumption of Mary is the dogma of the Catholic Church. Mary with soul and body was taken to heaven, which was a confirmation of her holiness. The Solemnity of the Assumption makes us aware that we have a great Advocate in heaven to whom we can entrust our everyday life and future”.
“Blessed Virgin Mary has been with Poles and helped them in many historical experiences. That is why we owe her special gratitude, respect, and love, as well as defense of her image against all insults” - he added.
The spokesman of the Polish Episcopate reminded that on August 15 we also celebrate the 99th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw called Miracle on the Vistula and the Polish Army Day. “This day combines a religious and patriotic dimension. This is very characteristic for Polish history and traditions, in which the most important values have always been: God, honour and Homeland” - he said, inviting on behalf of the bishops to pray for Poland and soldiers who care about its security.
