My desire is that with all the diversity, we preserve the unity of the Church and that at the end of this Synod, the Holy Spirit would hint at what synodality means," said the President of the Polish Bishops' Conference Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki before the commencement of the first session of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod.
The Episcopate President admitted that the expectations of the current Synod "go in the direction of a wish to understand what synodality is."
"My desire is that on the one hand, with all the diversity, we preserve the unity of the Church and that at the end of this Synod, the Holy Spirit would hint at what synodality means," the President of the Polish Bishops' Conference noted.
Archbishop Gądecki observed that at the first stage of the Synod - in parishes and dioceses - consideration was given to what synodality should lead to. "The conclusion was short: on the one hand, synodality should not lead to a change in doctrine, in the teaching of the Church; that is, on the one hand, to preserve sound Catholic teaching, and on the other hand, to allow the Holy Spirit to speak, so that what is amendable is changed, and what is not amendable is not changed," he explained.
The President of the Polish Episcopate stressed that "the Church's teaching is not an immovable rock, but, on the contrary, it is a reality that must constantly evolve, in the sense of striving for a clearer articulation of Catholic truth." He added that the point is not to change this truth but to "strive for a more perfect expression, a solution more appropriate to our times."
