On the eve of the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Poland, 2 May, the Permanent Council of the Polish Bishops' Conference will meet at Jasna Góra. The meeting will focus on current pastoral matters of the Church in Poland.
Bishop Artur G. Miziński, Secretary General of the Polish Bishops' Conference, noted that the main issues of the meeting of the Permanent Council will be religious lessons in schools, standards for the protection of minors and initiatives related to the Church Jubilees 2025 and 2033. “During the meeting, the President of the Commission of the Polish Episcopate for Catholic Education, Bishop Wojciech Osial, will present the current status of the work of the Working Group for contacts with the Government of the Republic of Poland on religion lessons at school” – Bishop Miziński said.
The Secretary General of the Polish Episcopate informed that on the issue of the protection of minors, Archbishop Wojciech Polak, the Delegate of the Polish Episcopate for the protection of minors, will refer to the state of preparations for the establishment of an “Church Team to investigate the problem of sexual abuse of minors by some clergy”. He added that Fr Adam Żak SJ will also present to the bishops how the process of preparing standards for the protection of minors and vulnerable persons in institutions run by the Catholic Church in Poland is going.
In addition, during the meeting, the bishops will take up the topic of nationwide initiatives for the celebration of the Jubilee Year 2025 and Church events related to the Great Novena before the Jubilee of the 2000th anniversary of the work of Redemption, which we will celebrate in 2033.
The bishops participating in the Permanent Council and other representatives of the Polish Episcopate who will join them will participate the following day, 3 May, in the celebration of the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary Queen of Poland at Jasna Góra. The ceremony will be presided over by Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda SAC, President of the Polish Bishops' Conference.
There will be no press conference for journalists after the Permanent Council.
