During an audience granted on 23 May this year to the Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, the Holy Father Francis authorised the promulgation of the decree confirming the martyrdom (Decretum super martyrio) of the Servant of God Fr Stanisław Streich, which opens the way to his beatification. It will most likely take place in 2025 in Poznań.
Fr Streich is a priest who was murdered for religious reasons on 27 February 1938 during the Holy Mass for children in the parish church in Luboń near Poznań. According to witnesses, after firing several shots in the face and back, the killer shouted from the pulpit: "Long live communism!".
The process of beatification was initiated by Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki in 2017.
