Communiqué from the meeting of the Joint Commission of Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Polish Bishops' Conference

On 16 October this year, the Joint Commission of Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Polish Bishops' Conference met. The meeting dealt, among other things, with the issue of religion lessons at school and the Church fund.

The Joint Commission decided to create a joint sub-commission on religion at school in order to work on solutions in this area. Participants in the meeting expressed their will to continue dialogue in State-Church relations.

Communiqué
from the meeting of the Joint Commission of Representatives
of the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Polish Bishops' Conference

 

The Joint Commission of Representatives of the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Polish Bishops' Conference met in Warsaw, at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, on 16 October 2024. The meeting was co-chaired by Tomasz Siemoniak, Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, and Archbishop Józef Kupny, Metropolitan of Wrocław, Deputy President of the Polish Bishops' Conference.

The government side presented its proposals for replacing the Church Fund with other solutions. The Church side asserted its willingness to discuss these proposals with the Polish Bishops' Conference and its willingness to dialogue on the matter.

The Church side presented its position on the teaching of religion in school. The government side asserted its willingness to consult and agree on this issue. The Joint Committee decided to establish a joint sub-committee on religion in school to work on solutions in this area.

The government side reported on its main work, especially in the area of state and citizen security. The Church side is ready to cooperate with the government in this area.

The Joint Commission expressed its willingness to continue dialogue in State-Church relations.
