It is very fitting that in the Jubilee Year lived under the sign of hope, the 20th anniversary of the passing of St John Paul II to the House of the Father falls, for he was a Pilgrim of hope – said the Spokesman of the Polish Bishops' Conference, Fr Leszek Gęsiak SJ, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the death of St John Paul II, which falls on 2 April.

The Spokesman acknowledged that "it is very fitting that in the Jubilee Year lived under the sign of hope, the 20th anniversary of St John Paul II's passing to the House of the Father falls, because after all he was a Pilgrim of hope". "Therefore, despite the passage of these years since his passing, Pope Wojtyła continues to inspire us on the paths of faith, showing us how to bring Christian hope where it is lacking: to the environments in which we live and work, to which God sends us. This is our Christian vocation and this is what St John Paul II taught us when he was in our midst" – he pointed out.
Fr Gęsiak recalled that during his long pontificate, Pope John Paul II made 104 trips abroad, during which he visited 129 countries, "carrying the message of hope to the ends of the earth: to places where there were regimes that did not respect human rights, freedom of religion, dignity and respect for human life". "He stood up for the suffering, the persecuted, the marginalised, the vulnerable. He pointed out that without reference to God, there will be no lasting peace in the world, no reconciliation between peoples and no respect for human life" – he stressed.
"His legacy, which is still worth exploring, can help us respond more fully to the challenges of the modern world. For they still remain the same: man seeks the meaning of life and love. And St John Paul II stressed that they cannot be found without Christ, who is our Hope" – indicated the Spokesman of the Polish Bishops' Conference.
