Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Ireneusz Pękalski

The Holy Father Francis has accepted the resignation of Bishop Ireneusz Pękalski from his ministry as auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Łódź, the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland announced at noon on Tuesday, 8 April.

Bishop Ireneusz Pękalski served as auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Lodz for more than 25 years. Within the Polish Bishops' Conference from 2011 to 2016, he was a delegate for the Pastoral Care of Women; earlier, he was also a member of the Commission for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments and a member of the Council for Ecumenism, among others. On 9 March, he turned 75 and submitted his resignation from the ministry of Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Łódź to the Holy Father Francis. His acceptance by the Pope was announced on 8 April by the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland.
