Warsaw, 21 April 2025
Dear brothers and sisters,
on Monday, in the Octave of Easter, Pope Francis passed away to the House of the Father. For more than 12 years he led the community of the Church, following the example of the poor man of Assisi in his Petrine ministry.
Throughout the years of his pontificate, he left us with the task of going to the peripheries with the truth of the Gospel. He taught us about holiness from the neighbourhood, and to achieve this we had to ‘get off our couches’. He taught us to be grateful for the gift of creation, for we are all brothers. He wanted us to remember that the light of faith is meant to illuminate our lives, for after all, God loved us and the Heart of Jesus was pierced for us on the Cross. Twice during his pontificate he opened the Holy Door of Jubilee. The first time when he wanted to deepen the teaching on God's mercy and during the ongoing Jubilee to reassure the community of the Holy Church that hope cannot fail.
This morning he stood before the Face of the Merciful God, whom he preached and in whom he trusted implicitly. May the Merciful God reward him for his efforts in leading the community of the Church, and may Mary, Mother of Mercy, grant him the joy of eternal life.
To all believers in our homeland, I ask that prayers for the gift of eternal life be offered for the late Pope Francis in the coming days.
✠ Tadeusz Wojda SAC
