Cardinal Dominik Jaroslav Duka OP, archbishop emeritus of the Archdiocese of Prague, has been appointed by Pope Leo XIV as special envoy for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk. The celebrations will take place at Oliwa Cathedral in Gdańsk on 14 October this year, with the participation of the Polish Bishops’ Conference.

In connection with this year's 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk, the 402nd Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference will take place in Gdańsk in October. On 14 October, the bishops will take part in the main jubilee celebrations at Oliwa Cathedral.
Cardinal Dominik Duka, long-time president of the Czech Bishops' Conference, Archbishop of Prague and Primate of the Czech Republic from 2010 to 2022, and currently Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Prague, has been appointed as the Holy Father's special envoy for this event.
Pope Leo XIV's decision to appoint Cardinal Duka as special envoy for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Gdańsk was announced on Saturday, 23 August this year, by the Holy See Press Office.
