Communique from the Press Office of the Polish Bishops’ Conference
following the meeting between the Presidium of the Polish Bishops’ Conference
and the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors

From 30 September to 3 October 2025, the Plenary Session of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors was held. The Commission's deliberations took place at the monastery of the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Krakow. On the last day of the deliberations, the Apostolic Nuncio to Poland, Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi, and the Presidium of the Polish Bishops' Conference were invited to the meeting concluding the Plenary Session. Twenty bishops also took part in the meeting.

In accordance with the schedule of the Pontifical Commission, the discussions with the Polish boshops concerned the pilot programme of universal guidelines of the Pontifical Commission on the protection of minors, which are currently being consulted by the Commission. The Commission also focused on the issue of training competent personnel in Church institutions, especially lay people.

The Commission's pilot guidelines came into force in January 2025, allowing Polish bishops to share their initial observations on the application of the new measures in the context of the Polish legal system and cultural traditions. There was also discussion on how the new guidelines could help Church institutions in Poland to be even more effective in protecting minors.

The meeting concluded with the Pontifical Commission and the bishops sharing their experiences in the prevention and resolution of cases of sexual abuse of minors and vulnerable persons, as well as in caring for all those who have experienced such cases.
