During Pope's Day, a fundraising collection will be held to support a scholarship program for talented young people from less affluent backgrounds in small towns, organized by the “Work of the New Millennium” Foundation.

The date and theme of this year’s Pope's Day were announced by Archbishop Adrian Galbas, SAC, Metropolitan Archbishop of Warsaw and Chairman of the Council of the “Work of the New Millennium” Foundation. He noted that this year’s theme refers to the pastoral program of the Church in Poland for this year, “Disciple–Missionary,” hence: “Saint John Paul II: Disciple–Missionary.”

Archbishop Galbas pointed out that the term “disciple–missionary” first appeared in the final document of the Fifth General Conference of the Bishops of Latin America and the Caribbean in Aparecida. It was later used by Pope Francis in his apostolic exhortation Evangelii gaudium. “To be a disciple means to be a missionary. I am as much a missionary as I am a disciple,” emphasized the Metropolitan of Warsaw.

Rev. Dariusz Kowalczyk, Chairman of the Board of the “Work of the New Millennium” Foundation, summarized the celebrations of the 25th Pope's Day. He reported that a total of more than PLN 12 million was raised during church and public collections for the scholarship program supporting talented young people from less affluent backgrounds in small towns.

Rev. Łukasz Nycz, a member of the Foundation’s Board, presented the formation program for scholarship recipients, who number around 2,000, while the total number of recipients has already reached approximately 9,000 from across Poland.
