On 25 August, the eve of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Częstochowa, a meeting of the Permanent Council of the Bishops will take place at Jasna Góra. The following day, the bishops will take part in the feast day celebrations, which this year coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Jasna Góra Vows of the Polish Nation.

The Secretary-General of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Bishop Marek Marczak, pointed out that this year, on 25 August, a meeting of the Permanent Council of the Bishops will take place at Jasna Góra, rather than, as in previous years, a meeting of the Council of Diocesan Bishops. “In previous years, the Council of Diocesan Bishops met on this day. The new Statutes of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, approved by the Holy See last year, do not provide for a body such as the Council of Diocesan Bishops within the Polish Bishops’ Conference,” explained Bishop Marczak.
The Secretary-General of the Polish Bishops’ Conference pointed out that the main topic of the Permanent Council’s meeting will be preparations for the 406th Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, which is to take place in October this year. He added that the Permanent Council’s meeting is of a formal and organisational nature; consequently, no statement is expected to be issued following its conclusion.
The following day, on Wednesday 26 August, the bishops will take part in the celebrations of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Częstochowa. The Holy Mass at the Jasna Góra Summit at 11.00 am will be presided over by Archbishop Wojciech Polak, Primate of Poland, who will also deliver the homily. This year, the celebration will be combined with the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Jasna Góra Vows of the Polish Nation, which were made at Jasna Góra on 26 August 1956. The text of the Vows was written by Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, Primate of Poland, who was interned in Komańcza at the time.
