Representatives of the Polish Bishops' Conference, led by the Secretary General of the Polish Bishops' Conference, Bishop Marek Marczak, and the Spokesman of the Polish Bishops' Conference, Fr Leszek Gęsiak SJ, will take part in the beatification ceremonies.

Archbishop Profittlich, following Pope Pius XII's suggestion and staying true to himself and God, decided to share the common fate of so many Estonians in the period following the Soviet occupation of Estonia. Profittlich stayed in the country alongside the people and Church that he loved so much. Even though he had the opportunity to leave for his native Germany, he remained faithful to his vocation and God until the end. However, this led to his martyrdom in Kirov prison in Soviet Russia on February 22, 1942.

"The beatification of our Archbishop Martyr Eduard Profittlich is a message of hope and optimism for all of Estonian society" – underlined Bishop of Tallinn Philippe Jourdan.

The beatification will take place in accordance with the rules of the Holy See during Mass. The Holy Mass begins at 11:00 on September 6th and the venue for the Holy Mass has been chosen in Freedom Square (Vabaduse väljak in Estonian) in the center of the City of Tallinn. At the end of the Eucharist, all victims of Soviet deportations will be commemorated on Freedom Square by an ecumenical prayer with the representatives of Christian Churches.

For this event, a large number of pilgrims and guests are expected to arrive in Tallinn, both from neighboring countries and further afield, including relatives of Archbishop Profittlich from Germany.

Admission to the Holy Mass is free and open to all. No registration is required.
