May this time become for us an opportunity to draw closer to Christ – said the President of the Polish Bishops' Conference, Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda SAC, on the occasion of the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday.

The President of the Polish Bishops' Conference encouraged the faithful to rediscover God’s mercy during Lent, especially in the sacraments of Confession and the Eucharist. “Let us remember that the meaning of this forty-day spiritual journey is to prepare for Easter,” he emphasized. As Archbishop Wojda explained, “it is not a time of passive waiting, but of active conversion and vigilance.” “Let us therefore seek Christ in the paths of our daily lives,” he urged.
Referring to this year's 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi, Archbishop Wojda recalled the words of the saint’s prayer for peace: “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love."
