Card. Grzegorz Ryś appointed new Metropolitan Archbishop of Kraków

Card. Grzegorz Ryś, until now Archbishop Metropolitan of Łódź, has been appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Kraków. The decision of Pope Leo XIV was announced today at noon by the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland.

At the same time, the Holy Father accepted the resignation of Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski from the office of Metropolitan Archbishop of Krakow.

Within the Polish Bishops’ Conference, he is President of the Council for Religious Dialogue and the Committee for Dialogue with Judaism. In addition, he is a member of the Council for Ecumenism, the Council for Culture and the Protection of Cultural Heritage, and the Council for the Family.

Cardinal Ryś is also a member of the Dicastery for Bishops and the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

His episcopal motto is: ‘Virtus in infirmitate’ (Strength in weakness).
