United in prayer for peace in Ukraine and the Holy Land

Once again, this year, from Ash Wednesday and throughout Lent, the Church in Europe wishes to gather around the Eucharistic table to invoke peace. The Polish Bishops’ Conference will join the initiative on March 17.

The appointment, which involves all CCEE members, sees each national Bishops’ Conference committed to organising at least one Mass to pray for the victims of war and to invoke from the Lord an “unarmed and disarming peace” in Ukraine, the Holy Land and throughout the whole world.

The Lenten initiative, called the “Eucharistic Chain”, has become a regular prayer appointment for our Bishops’ Conferences of Europe and is meant to be an experience of communion and a visible sign of hope for the entire European Continent. And as the Holy Father invites us: “Let us open ourselves to peace! Let us welcome it and recognize it, rather than believing it to be impossible and beyond our reach. Peace is more than just a goal; it is a presence and a journey.“ (Message of Pope Leo XIV for the 59th World Day of Peace).

The Polish Bishops’ Conference will join the initiative on March 17.
