On the first Friday of Lent, February 20 this year, the Church in Poland observes the Day of Prayer and Solidarity with Victims of Sexual Abuse. In the chapel of the Secretariat of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, a Way of the Cross service was held, during which prayers were offered for those who have been harmed.

The service was presided over by Bishop Marek Marczak, Secretary General of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. The reflections for this year’s Way of the Cross were prepared by Sr. Scholastyka Iwańska, ZSAPU, delegate of the Congregation of Albertine Sisters Serving the Poor for the protection of children and young people, and a sister accompanying callers on the “Sisters for the Victims” support helpline.
“The Day of Prayer and Solidarity is meant to help us pause beside those who have been harmed and say to each of them: you are not alone. We want the harmed to feel that their painful experience is not ignored and that they have our support, even if they have never spoken about it,” wrote Archbishop Wojciech Polak, Delegate of the Polish Bishops’ Conference for the Protection of Children and Young People, in his message for this year’s Day of Prayer and Solidarity with Victims of Sexual Abuse.
