Polish Synod Fathers: Let us help young people to listen to Jesus (third day of the synod)
The word “listen” is one of those most frequently repeated in the synod. In a special way, the need for the Church to listen to the voice of young people is emphasized. This is very important, but our task is, above all, to help young people to listen to the voice of Jesus, said Bishop Florczyk from Poland on Saturday during the third working day of the synod.
On Saturday, October 6 th , the synod’s participants discussed in working groups, concentrating on the first part of the working document of the synod, the Instrumentum Laboris, dedicated to the analysis of the context in which young people live and the actions
the Church undertakes to meet them. In the afternoon, there was a meeting that brought together the Pope and the Synod Fathers with young people.
Archbishop Gadecki: The postmodern world rejects objectivity, stability, normativity and normality
The postmodern world rejects all objectivity, stability, normativity, as well as normality. The call for principles is not popular in the present world, which is marked by the crisis of faith and reason – said archbishop Gadecki, the President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, in the homily at the grave of St. John Paul II in St. Peter’s Basilica, on October 4th. The Poles presently in Rome participated in the Eucharist.
Archbishop Gadecki, referring to the teaching of St. Pope John Paul II, recalled his question about what modern man fears and the answer to the absence of a diagnosis of modern times. “Modern man seems to be threatened by what he has made with his own hands and mind,” said Archbishop Gadecki, alluding to St. John Paul II’s words. He emphasized that people’s creations often not only turn against manbut can also affect, along with him, everything that surrounds us.

Youth ministry, pastoral care of families and prevention of abuse of minors are the main topics of the 380th Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference that is taking place on 25 and 26 September in Plock, in connection with the jubilee of the 450th anniversary of the death of St. Stanislaus Kostka, who was born in Rostkowo, in the diocese of Plock.

On Thursday, September 20, the representatives of the National Police Headquarters and the Church in Poland met in the Secretariat of the Polish Bishops’ Conference in Warsaw to promote together road safety and encourage pedestrians to join the “Pass it on” campaign. As the organizers explain, the point is to give each other reflectors with dedication, so that they remind us of the need for safety. “Give your family and friends a reflector as a gift. Reflectors mean simply life”, said Fr. Paweł Rytel-Andrianik, spokesman of the Episcopate.
Fr. Martin Michalíček, New Secretary General of CCEE
Fr Martin Michalíček is the new Secretary General of the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE). Late in the morning the Presidents of Europe’s Bishops’ Conferences, gathered Poznań (13-16) for their annual Plenary Assembly (13-16 September), elected him for a five-year term (with immediate effect). Fr Martin Michalíček succeeds Duarte da Cunha, who concluded a second five-year term. The CCEE President, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa, along with the Vice-presidents, Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster, his Grace Mgr Stanisław Gądecki, Archbishop of Poznań, and the Presidents of Europe’s Bishops’ Conferences, thanked Fr Duarte da Cunha for his dedication to leading the CCEE Secretariat and Fr Martin Michalíček for his readiness to serve the Church in Europe.
