Dioceses
A diocese is an administrative unit in the Catholic Church headed by a diocesan bishop. In the governance of the diocese, the bishop is assisted by the curia, the synod, the cathedral chapter, the consultors, the priests’ council, and the pastoral council. The diocese is the main form of the particular Church. Several dioceses, including one archdiocese, together form an ecclesiastical province – a metropolis. It is headed by a metropolitan who is also the archbishop of the archdiocese.
