#Zaduszki (All Souls) in Social Media – a New Initiative
“The memory of those have departed can be extended through an internet initiative. Using the hashtag #Zaduszki, twitter users can share photos of the graves and necropolises of the dead [as traditionally lit with candles] at this time of year. This is a new way of reminding our Social Media friends about the need to pray for the souls of the dead, hence the name of the action ‘#Zaduszki’” said spokesman of the Polish Bishops' Conference Father Paweł Rytel-Andrianik.

Principality of Monaco – This morning, the Presidents of Europe’s Bishops’ Conferences, members by right of CCEE (the Council of European Episcopal Conferences) elected the new CCEE Presidency for the five-year mandate 2016-2021. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa and President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference (former CCEE Vice President for the five years’ period 2011-2016), was elected as President, and to the roles of Vice-presidents were elected Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, and His Grace Mgr Stanisław Gądecki, Archbishop of Poznań and President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. This year’s Ash Wednesday and the Lenten Season have taken on a special connotation and colour, occurring during the current Jubilee Year of Mercy. Pope Francis marked the beginning of the Church's Lenten journey by sending out several hundred religious and diocesan priests from around the world as "Missionaries of Mercy" to their local churches and communities. At the Feb. 10 Ash Wednesday Mass in Rome’s St. Peter’s Basilica, the Pope officially commissioned 762 priests with the task, empowering them to forgive even the sins that are reserved for the Holy See to pardon. The original plan of the Holy Father was to have just 800 Missionaries of Mercy. But with overwhelming requests from around the world, he ended up choosing over 1,000. Of these, 762 were specially invited to the Vatican for the official ceremony.
