Pope visits pediatric hospital in Mexico City
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Sunday visited the “Federico Gómez” Pediatric Hospital in Mexico City. He told the children " I ask God to bless you, and to accompany you and your families, and all those people who work in this home and try to ensure that your smiles grow day by day." The hospital was inaugurated in 1943 and it was visited by Pope St John Paul II on his journey to Mexico in 1979.
Pope appoints new bishop in East Timor
Pope Francis on Saturday appointed a new bishop to the Diocese of Dili, the Capital of Timor Leste, East Timor. Fr. Virgilio Do Carmo Da Silva, the provincial superior of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Timor Leste is the new bishop. The See of Dili has been vacant since Feb. 9, 2015, after late Bishop Alberto Ricardo da Silva stepped down.
Pope address to Pontifical Academy for Life
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis said on Thursday that some organisations at the service of human life “are more interested in the economic side than working for the common good. He also warned that human nature nowadays is increasingly reduced to a malleable material that can be molded to any design and said the first thing to safeguard is our own humanity. His comments came in an address to participants at the Plenary Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life.
Pope to pray in private before Our Lady of Guadalupe
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis is in Mexico on his 12th Apostolic Journey. He was welcomed there to an atmosphere of 'fiesta' on Friday night. On Saturday his schedule includes an encounter with civil society and the diplomatic corps, the bishops of Mexico, and Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Pope makes surprise visit to San Carlo community
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Friday paid a surprise visit to the San Carlo community at the Italian Centre for Solidarity (CeIS) near Castelgandalfo in the Alban hills. Founded by Father Mario Picchi, the San Carlo community works to prevent and combat social exclusion, focusing especially on those suffering from drug addiction.
President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference thanks Pope Francis for his words about St. John Paul II
“On behalf of the faithful and shepherds of the Church in Poland, I wish to thank Your Holiness for the loving and sensitive words about St. John Paul II”, wrote President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki in a letter to Pope Francis. He referred to the words spoken by Pope Francis on Sunday, April 16, during the Regina Coeli prayer, “in the context of media allegations” concerning St. John Paul II.
