Pope Francis names Douglas Deshotel as Bishop of Lafayette
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has named Bishop John Douglas Deshotel, as Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, Louisiana, and accepted the resignation of Bishop C. Michael Jarrell, from pastoral governance of that diocese. Bishop Deshotel has served as an auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Dallas since 2010.
Russia denies creating massive wave of Syrian refugees
(Vatican Radio) Russia has denied that it is targeting civilians in Syria amid fresh accusations that Moscow's military intervention in that country has displaced more than half a million Syrians since September, while 2016 is expected to see even more Syrians flooding Europe than the record numbers seen last year. Turkish and American leaders have accused Russia of using refugees from Syria as a geopolitical tool to further undermine stability in Turkey, the European Union, and the NATO military alliance.
The Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference
The pastoral care of married couples and families and help to victims of war in the Middle East were the main topics addressed at the 375th Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. Furthermore, the Bishops urge all parties involved in political and social life to show mutual respect and to work toward reconciliation, unity, and peace. They ask all the Poles to pray for their homeland.
Przewodniczący KEP na otwarciu biura Komitetu Żydów Amerykańskich w Europie Środkowej
Przewodniczący Episkopatu abp Gądecki wziął udział w otwarciu biura Komitetu Żydów Amerykańskich (American Jewish Committee) w Europie Środkowej. Wygłosił z tej okazji okolicznościowe przemówienie. Uroczysta gala z udziałem urzędników państwowych, dyplomatów, przedstawicieli mediów i przywódców społeczności żydowskiej odbyła się 27. marca w Muzeum Historii Żydów Polskich POLIN w Warszawie.
