Poland: President Meets with Church Leaders and Minority Groups
Our task was, is and will be the search for truth, harmony and unity in the international space, in the life of our Homeland and in the smallest communities, that is our families and local communities. This attitude was taught to us by John Paul II - said Archbishop Wojciech Polak, Primate of Poland, during the New Year’s Meeting of Representatives of Churches and Religious Associations with the Presidential couple, which took place on January 14 in the Presidential Palace in Warsaw.

Announcement of the beatification of Cardinal Wyszyński, decisions to increase the protection of children and youth, the 100th anniversary of the Polish Bishops’ Conference and the restoration of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Poland - these are the most important events that took place in the Church in Poland in 2019.
The Week in Summary (November 10-16)
The celebration of the 101st anniversary of Poland regaining independence was the most important event of this week. During the Eucharist in the Temple of Divine Providence, the Candle of Independence was lit, which was offered to Warsaw by Pius IX in 1867 when Poland was under the partitions. He wished that it would be lit only when Poland was free.
The Week in Summary (October 27 – November 2)
The week began with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of episcopal ordination of Monsignor Achille Ratti. He was the first papal nuncio to independent Poland and then Pope Pius XI. The solemn Eucharist in St. John’s Archcathedral in Warsaw was presided by Archbishop Mario Delpini, metropolitan of Milan. Monsignor Ratti became also Metropolitan of Milan after three years spent in Warsaw.
The Week in Summary (October 13-19)
At the beginning of the week we celebrated in Poland National Education Day. The President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference thanked the teachers for everyday effort they put into their extremely important and responsible work. “You teach to choose good and warn against evil” – said Archbishop Gądecki.
