100 years ago Karol Wojtyła received the sacrament of baptism
100 years ago, on 20 June 2020, Karol Wojtyła, the future Pope John Paul II, received the sacrament of baptism at the baptismal font in the Chapel of the Holy Family in the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wadowice. “The day of baptism should be celebrated no less than the day of birth” – he said as Pope.
The Week in Summary (November 3-9)
The week began with the announcement of the second edition of the “Pole with heart” campaign, organized by the Catholic Youth Association. The campaign is taking place this weekend. The action consists in collection of food and SMS campaign for Poles from the East. The action is held under the auspices of Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, president of the Polish Episcopate. He said that thanks to this campaign, apart from material support, young people build relationships with our compatriots in the East.
Presidency of the Polish Bishops’ Conference: There can be no place for killing disabled and sick children!
“Both believers and non-believers are called to protect life from its conception to natural death. There can be no place for killing other people, especially disabled and sick children! This is not only a matter of worldview or religion but above all of science which unambiguously shows that human life begins at the moment of conception.” We read this in the Message of the Presidency of the Polish Bishops’ Conference—entitled “Love; Do Not Kill!”—for this year’s Feast of the Holy Family, on Sunday, December 31st.
Bishop Litynski's invitation to pray for the created world
Bishop Tadeusz Litynski, Chairman of the "Laudato si" Team at the Social Council of the Polish Episcopate, encourages the faithful to unite in prayer with the Holy Father and the whole world during the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, celebrated on September 1, and to take other initiatives to protect the environment. The day will mark the beginning of Time for Creation, lasting until St. Francis Sunday, celebrated in early October.
