UK Lay Organisation Responds to Call for Acts of Mercy
(Vatican Radio) The Order of the Knights of Saint Columba is a Catholic organisation for men in the United Kingdom, founded almost 100 years ago and dedicated to the principles of charity, unity and fraternity. The Order is named after the Irish missionary who travelled to Scotland in the sixth century.
Pope makes surprise visit to San Carlo community
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Friday paid a surprise visit to the San Carlo community at the Italian Centre for Solidarity (CeIS) near Castelgandalfo in the Alban hills. Founded by Father Mario Picchi, the San Carlo community works to prevent and combat social exclusion, focusing especially on those suffering from drug addiction.
Pope offers "spiritual medicine" to pilgrims at Angelus
(Vatican Radio) It’s time for another dose of the “spiritual medicine” Misericordin. Following the Angelus on Sunday, Pope Francis offered the faithful gathered in St Peter’s Square the gift of a small box, designed to look like a box of medicine, containing a small Rosary and an image of the Merciful Jesus.
Pope visits pediatric hospital in Mexico City
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Sunday visited the “Federico Gómez” Pediatric Hospital in Mexico City. He told the children " I ask God to bless you, and to accompany you and your families, and all those people who work in this home and try to ensure that your smiles grow day by day." The hospital was inaugurated in 1943 and it was visited by Pope St John Paul II on his journey to Mexico in 1979.
