In connection with the arrival in Poland of growing number of refugees who belong to various non-Catholic Christian Churches, the Legal Council and the Council for Ecumenism of the Polish Bishops’ Conference has prepared the PRO MEMORIA concerning religious services provided to the faithful of Churches and Ecclesial Communities not in full communion with the Catholic Church, dated 8 March 2022.
The Permanent Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church began in Wrocław
The Permanent Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) started its proceedings in Wrocław on May 23, 2023. The session will include meetings focused on Poland's efforts to assist refugees and the experience of the Przemyśl-Warsaw Metropolis of the Greek Catholic Church in Poland in this regard.
Australians urged to fight human trafficking, injustice
The Catholic Church of Australia is calling on its citizens not to be indifferent to human trafficking and take simple steps to combatting global injustice. The Australian Catholic Bishops’ Commission for Pastoral life (BCPL) and Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans (ACRATH) are calling for a day of prayer, reflection and action against human trafficking on 8 February, the Feast of St Josephine Bakhita, a Sudanese slave who was rescued and later became a Canossian nun, and was declared a Saint in 2000. Last year, the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors General, promoted the first “International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking”, or Bakhita Day, on Feb. 8.
Pope Francis to open Lenten pastoral effort on social media
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis is the inaugural contributor to a Lenten pastoral effort of the Prelature of the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii. “Keep Lent” is an initiative of the Prelature’s youth ministry office, which reports several thousand subscribers already from throughout all of Italy and from around the world, including the United States.
