Pope Francis to open Lenten pastoral effort on social media
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis is the inaugural contributor to a Lenten pastoral effort of the Prelature of the Pontifical Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii. “Keep Lent” is an initiative of the Prelature’s youth ministry office, which reports several thousand subscribers already from throughout all of Italy and from around the world, including the United States.
Australians urged to fight human trafficking, injustice
The Catholic Church of Australia is calling on its citizens not to be indifferent to human trafficking and take simple steps to combatting global injustice. The Australian Catholic Bishops’ Commission for Pastoral life (BCPL) and Australian Catholic Religious Against Trafficking in Humans (ACRATH) are calling for a day of prayer, reflection and action against human trafficking on 8 February, the Feast of St Josephine Bakhita, a Sudanese slave who was rescued and later became a Canossian nun, and was declared a Saint in 2000. Last year, the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors General, promoted the first “International Day of Prayer and Awareness against Human Trafficking”, or Bakhita Day, on Feb. 8.
Spokesman of the Polish Episcopate: The Church is not against responsible sex education
The Catholic Church is not against responsible sex education. As part of courses for future spouses, classes are also conducted on topics related to sex life and responsible parenthood – indicates the spokesman of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Fr. Paweł Rytel-Andrianik, who comments on the discussion in the media. He also reminds that there is already a “Preparation for marriage and family life” program in schools.
17 January: The 26th Day of Judaism in the Catholic Church in Poland
The 26th Day of Judaism in the Catholic Church in Poland will be held on January 17, 2023 under the motto: “The coming of the Lord: you are leaving today” (Ex 13:4). The central celebrations take place in the city of Siedlce. The guest of honour of the cultural and religious celebrations will be the Israeli Rabbi Boaz Pash.
Cardinal Hlond condemned Kielce pogrom in 1946
As an answer to the accusations against Cardinal A. Hlond, Primate of Poland, of his negative attitude towards the Jewish people, on basis of the Primate’s Lenten Pastoral Letter from 1936 entitled „Catholic moral principles”, and of the alleged lack of reaction of Card. Hlond after the Kielce pogrom in 1946, the Postulation Office of Card. Hlond released a statement and two documents showing the relationship of Card. Hlond to the Jewish people.
