Polish Bishops: the need for service to marriage and the family as well as people in non-sacramental relationships
The Polish Bishops’ Conference on 379th Plenary Meeting, on June 8, adopted the „Pastoral Guidelines for the Exhortation Amoris Laetitia”. Bishops emphasize the need to serve the engaged, spouses and families as well as people living in irregular relationships according to the pastoral criteria proposed by Pope Francis: acceptance, accompaniment, discernment and integration. The document does not address the issue of holy communion for people living in non-sacramental relationships.

Please, let me call Your attention just to one - but in my opinion crucial - a moment of our reflection based on the Instrumentum Laboris. In the point 173 we read: All accompaniment is a way to introduce the call to joy and can thus become the appropriate place to proclaim the good news of Easter and foster the encounter with the risen Christ: a kerygma that «expresses God’s saving love which precedes any moral and religious obligation on our part; it should not impose the truth but appeal to freedom; it should be marked by joy, encouragement, liveliness and a harmonious balance» (EG 165) - the last piece is a quotation of Evangelii gaudium.
Institute for Catholic Church Statistics: More people at Sunday Masses and receiving Holy Communion
In 2017, the rate of Catholics participating in Sunday Eucharist increased by 1.6% in comparison to 2016. The rate of Catholics receiving Holy Communion increased by 1%. This means that approximately half a million more Catholics regularly participated in Holy Masses and around 300,000 more people received Holy Communion - according to the latest research of the Institute for Catholic Church Statistics presented on January 8.

Once again we want to express our sincere will to continue the dialogue and the desire for even deeper reconciliation between our Churches. We trust that our Churches will soon be able to proclaim the Polish Pope as the patron of our reconciliation – we read in the Position of the President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference and the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on the will to continue the dialogue and the desire for deeper reconciliation. The document was signed during the meeting of the Council of Diocesan Bishops, on August 27, 2019, at Jasna Góra.
The Week in Summary (October 27 – November 2)
The week began with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of episcopal ordination of Monsignor Achille Ratti. He was the first papal nuncio to independent Poland and then Pope Pius XI. The solemn Eucharist in St. John’s Archcathedral in Warsaw was presided by Archbishop Mario Delpini, metropolitan of Milan. Monsignor Ratti became also Metropolitan of Milan after three years spent in Warsaw.
