Rusza akcja Caritas „Tornister Pełen Uśmiechów”
W te wakacje rusza już 12. edycja corocznej akcji Caritas „Tornister Pełen Uśmiechów”, której celem jest wsparcie dzieci z potrzebujących rodzin u progu nowego roku szkolnego. W tym roku poza wyprawkami szkolnymi uczniowie zyskają dostęp do sprzętu komputerowego zakupionego przez Caritas Polska we współpracy z fundacją Pro Caritate. Ponad 300 laptopów trafi w połowie lipca do świetlic środowiskowych, domów dziecka i placówek Caritas.
Mexicans devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe
(Vatican Radio) Veronica Scarisbrick, our correspondent covering the papal visit to Mexico looks at the long-standing devotion by the Mexican faithful to Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose shrine will be visited by Pope Francis on Saturday. She retraces the bitter persecution of the Catholic Church in Mexico during a large part of the 19th century when anti-clericalism was enshrined in the nation’s constitution for many decades.
India's top court calls for improved compensation for rape victims ‎
India's Supreme Court has directed all the country's states to formulate a uniform policy to provide compensation to victims of rape and other forms of sexual assault, saying such aid was crucial for a survivor's rehabilitation. Conservative and patriarchal attitudes in India mean victims of sexual assault are often shunned by their families and communities and blamed for the violence perpetrated against them, say activists and lawyers. Many are ostracised from their homes and cannot afford the legal fees to fight for justice in an under-resourced judicial system where verdicts can still take years to reach.
