(Vatican Radio) If you are a pilgrim in Rome this week during this Year of Mercy, chances are you will have planned to go through the Holy Door in St Peter’s Basilica, or if you have really done your research you will be making your way to see the relics of St Pio of Pietrelcina, better known as Padre Pio and St Leopold Mandic who have both been brought to the Eternal City as part of the Jubilee celebrations.

Today's beatification is a sign of consolation from God, in times marked by wounds inflicted by violence and war – said Cardinal Marcello Semeraro at the Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Krakow-Łagiewniki. The Prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints presided on Saturday, 15 June, over the Mass of Beatification of Father Michał Rapacz, a parish priest from Płoki murdered by the communists on 12 May 1946. 12 May will henceforth be the day of the liturgical commemoration of the new Blessed.

W stolicy Filipin rozpoczął się 16 stycznia Światowy Apostolski Kongres Bożego Miłosierdzia (WACOM – World Apostolic Congres On Mercy), który potrwa tam do [piątku] 20 stycznia. Jego temat to „Komunia i misja”. Obecny kongres, już czwarty z kolei, odbywa się po raz pierwszy na terenie Azji – kontynentu, na którym szczególnie skupia się teraz uwaga Kościoła. Zostały one zapoczątkowane w 2008 r. Dwa pierwsze miały miejsce w Europie, najpierw w Rzymie, a potem w krakowskich Łagiewnikach (2003 r.), a trzeci w Ameryce Łacińskiej, mianowicie w stolicy Kolumbii Bogocie (2014 r.).
The Council for Pastoral Care for Poles Abroad in Europe met in Vilnius
The plenary meeting of the Council for Pastoral Care for Poles Abroad of Europe was held on 22-24 September 2023 at Domus Maria near the Shrine of Our Lady of Mercy in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Council brings together several dozen people - clergy, religious sisters, and laity, representing Polish-speaking pastoral care in European countries. Its chairman is the Conference of Polish Bishops’ Delegate for the Pastoral Care of Polish Emigrants, Bishop Piotr Turzyński. The meeting concerned issues related to catechesis.
Cardinal Onaiyekan calls for national spiritual rebirth
The Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan has called for a sincere, moral and national, spiritual rebirth in Nigeria. The Cardinal has described the spiritual rebirth required as an effective antidote for the nation’s socio-economic and moral challenges. The Cardinal made the call in his homily at the opening Mass of the first plenary meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) held recently at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral, Garki, Abuja. The theme of the week-long plenary was, The Catholic Church: Promoting Mercy, Social Justice and Peace.
Bishops of Congo call on nation to embrace love and forgiveness
Congo Brazzaville's Catholic newspaper, “La Semaine Africaine” reports this week that the Bishops of Congo Brazzaville, at the end of their Plenary Assembly, have released a pastoral statement calling on the people of the Republic of Congo to live their “Christian vocation as witnesses of God’s mercy to others.” This, the Bishops emphasise, “means showing God’s forgiveness, compassion, tenderness and love, to build a fairer Congo, where unity, reconciliation, dialogue, harmony and sharing take precedence over selfishness, hatred, rancour, vindictiveness and divisions,” the Bishops emphasise.
Apostolic Nuncio to Mexico: Pope to find deep roots of faith
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis departs for Mexico on Friday, for a week-long visit to the country and the people under the sign of mercy and peace. Vatican Radio’s Veronica Scarisbrick is in Mexico ahead of the Holy Father’s arrival, and spoke with the Apostolic Nuncio to Mexico, Archbishop Christophe Pierre. “Many people think that the Pope will come [with] solutions to their problems,” said Archbishop Pierre, “obviously, the Pope does not come for that.” The Apostolic Nuncio went on to say, “I think it is just a question of respect for the people – the people are responsible.”
