Federico Lombardi SJ, były rzecznik Watykanu, podsumował głośną aferę Vatileaks. „Watykan przed sądem ludzi” – to tytuł jego książki, dokładnie opisującej i wyjaśniającej proces, w którym sądzeni byli watykańscy pracownicy oskarżeni o udostępnienie zastrzeżonych dokumentów oraz włoscy dziennikarze, którym zarzucono wywieranie nieuprawnionych presji. Współautorem książki jest Massilmiliano Manichetti, który jako dziennikarz Radia Watykańskiego uczestniczył we wszystkich 21 rozprawach.

Hierarchowie Kościoła maronickiego ogłosili, że rok 2017 będzie dla tej zakorzenionej głównie w Libanie katolickiej wspólnoty tradycji wschodniej „rokiem męczeństwa i męczenników”. Jego obchody zaczną się 9 lutego, w dzień poświęcony duchowemu założycielowi tej społeczności, pustelnikowi z V wieku, św. Maronowi. Koniec celebracji znaczyć będzie z kolei data 8 marca 2018 r., wspomnienie pierwszego maronickiego patriarchy. Jak wskazał jego współczesny następca, kard. Boutros Béchara Raï, refleksja nad tematem męczeństwa jest bardzo potrzebna obecnie, kiedy Kościół cierpi prześladowania w wielu miejscach, a zwłaszcza na Bliskim Wschodzie.
200 years of Oblates of Mary Immaculate, part 1
On Monday, Feb. 25, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate reached a milestone in their history – the 200 years of their founding. The story of the OMI begins amidst the ashes of the great upheaval of the French Revolution which has had repercussions worldwide. It was an era when the Catholic Church in France was devastated and held in contempt and ridicule. Nevertheless, on Feb. 25, 1816 in Aix-en-Provence in southern France near Marseille, a handful of zealous priests headed by their leader Eugene de Mazenod committed themselves to serving the lost, the least and the last, bringing them the Good News of Jesus. That group of evangelizers, which later came to be known as the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, today has some 4,000-members worldwide. Cebu gearing up for IEC 2016 grand finale
Cardinal Charles Bo Myanmar is expected to see the largest gathering of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) when he celebrates the concluding open-air Mass on Sunday at the South Road Properties in the central Philippine city of Cebu. More than 1.5 million people are expected for the so-called Statio Orbis Mass, along with more than 15,000 cardinals, bishops, priests, the religious and official delegates from at least 75 nations around the world who attended the Jan 24-31 event. Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara of Pasig, who heads the IEC’s communications committee, hinted they could be surprised by an unexpected closing message by Pope Francis. Anticipating a mammoth of crowd, the SRP area will be opened to the public as early in the morning. At least 200 parking lots for buses ferrying parishioners along a 1.4-kilometer stretch is in place, besides another 100 roadside slots.
