The Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference
The pastoral care of married couples and families and help to victims of war in the Middle East were the main topics addressed at the 375th Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. Furthermore, the Bishops urge all parties involved in political and social life to show mutual respect and to work toward reconciliation, unity, and peace. They ask all the Poles to pray for their homeland.
All dioceses in Poland celebrated the 104th World Day of Migrants and Refugees
The Church in Poland has actively participated in celebration of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees on Sunday, January 14. In many churches throughout the country there were masses celebrated according form “For Refugees and Exiles”. The Polish Bishops’ Conference appealed to the faithful to engage in specific assistance to migrants from the Middle East and Ukraine. There are 1.5 Million Ukrainian refugees living in Poland.
Meeting of the representatives of the episcopal conferences of Central and Eastern Europe
The representatives of the Episcopates of Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Ukraine, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the International Conference of the St. Cyril and Methodius, together with the CCEE Presidency, gathered in Bratislava on September 6 and 7, 2018. The participants in the meeting, in presence of the Apostolic Nuncio in Slovakia, celebrated the Holy Mass in the Cathedral of Saint Martin, presided by Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, President of the CCEE.
3rd Congress “Europa Christi”: John Paul II as the Patron Saint of Europe
The participants of the 3rd International Congress “Europa Christi” resembled the Christian roots of Europe and the need to return to the idea of the founding fathers of the European Union on February 14 at Jasna Góra. The theme of the meeting focused on the figures of Saints Cyril and Methodius on the occasion of the 1150th anniversary of the death of St. Cyril, co-patron of Europe, the apostle of the Slavs.
Activities of the Church in Poland in terms of prevention and protection of children and youth 2005-2019
Since 2005, the Catholic Church has been particularly involved in efforts to protect children and young people against sexual abuse by clerics. At the initiative of the Church, the Child Protection Center was established, about 3,000 priests were trained in prevention, and in each diocese there is a delegate dealing with the protection of children and youth.
