The Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference
The pastoral care of married couples and families and help to victims of war in the Middle East were the main topics addressed at the 375th Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. Furthermore, the Bishops urge all parties involved in political and social life to show mutual respect and to work toward reconciliation, unity, and peace. They ask all the Poles to pray for their homeland.
The President of the Polish Bishops' calls for prayers and help for Syria
A prayer for peace in Syria and its inclusion in the program of Caritas "Rodzina Rodzinie" (Family for Family) has been called for by Archbishop Stanislaw Gądecki, President of the Polish Bishops' Conference, who personally supports one of the Syrian families). The Archbishop also thanked the Poles for their commitment to helping the Syrians through the Pontifical Foundation "Aid to the Church in Need".
Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco elected new President of CCEE Cardinal Vincent Nichols and Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, Vice-Presidents
Principality of Monaco – This morning, the Presidents of Europe’s Bishops’ Conferences, members by right of CCEE (the Council of European Episcopal Conferences) elected the new CCEE Presidency for the five-year mandate 2016-2021. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, Archbishop of Genoa and President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference (former CCEE Vice President for the five years’ period 2011-2016), was elected as President, and to the roles of Vice-presidents were elected Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales, and His Grace Mgr Stanisław Gądecki, Archbishop of Poznań and President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. The Plenary Assembly thanked the newly-elected Vice-presidents for their willingness and wished them a period of profitable work in the service of evangelization and the Church in Europe, At the same time, the participants thanked the members of the outgoing Presidency for the work they have undertaken for the good of the Ch
