The 396th Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference began with the Daytime Prayer of the Liturgy of the Hours. The event is scheduled for the 20th and 21st of November at Jasna Góra. During the first day of the Synod of Bishops’ 16th Ordinary General Assembly, the bishops will discuss a document titled “Synodal Church in Mission” that summarizes the Assembly’s first Roman session.

The meeting was preceded by a press briefing of the spokesman of the Bishops’ Conference, Fr. Leszek Gęsiak SJ, with the participation of the Secretary General of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Bishop Artur G. Miziński.

Bishop Miziński reminded during the briefing that the main topic will be the report from the first Roman session of the Synod of Bishops on synodality, in which a delegation of the Church in Poland took part. He added that during the Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, bishops will focus on this report to present an in-depth reflection to the Secretariat of the Synod in March 2024.

An important moment of the first day of the Assembly will be the presentation of credentials by the new Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi. The Nuncio will hand over his credentials to the President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference and address the bishops with his first message.

Guests from abroad also attend the Plenary Assembly. Among them are representatives of the Renovabis Foundation, which this year celebrates the 30th anniversary of its existence.

The Plenary Assembly will last until Tuesday, November 21. A communiqué and a press conference will follow at around 2:30 p.m.
