Caritas Polska Turns 30 – It Started with Three People
Caritas Polska is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Caritas began with three people working on the top floor of the seat of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. Today, it is the largest charity organization in Poland and its aid programs for approx. 3 million people are run by over 100,000 volunteers.
Plenary meeting of the Polish Bishops’ Conference
Protection of children and young people as well as the pastoral agenda for the years 2019/2020 were the principal topics of the plenary meeting of the Polish Bishops’ Conference. The bishops convened in Wałbrzych, Diocese of Świdnica, on June 13-14, to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the diocese. Institute for Catholic Church Statistics: More people at Sunday Masses and receiving Holy Communion
In 2017, the rate of Catholics participating in Sunday Eucharist increased by 1.6% in comparison to 2016. The rate of Catholics receiving Holy Communion increased by 1%. This means that approximately half a million more Catholics regularly participated in Holy Masses and around 300,000 more people received Holy Communion - according to the latest research of the Institute for Catholic Church Statistics presented on January 8.
In Poland, Joint Action of the Church and the Police to Promote Pedestrian’s Security
Wearing reflectors that allow greater visibility on the road was called for conjointly by representatives of the Polish police force, the Polish Bishops’ Conference, and the Polish Ecumenical Council, which includes, among others, the Orthodox and Lutheran Churches. The Action #LetYourLightShine is also being promoted in the social media.
The Week in Summary (November 3-9)
The week began with the announcement of the second edition of the “Pole with heart” campaign, organized by the Catholic Youth Association. The campaign is taking place this weekend. The action consists in collection of food and SMS campaign for Poles from the East. The action is held under the auspices of Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, president of the Polish Episcopate. He said that thanks to this campaign, apart from material support, young people build relationships with our compatriots in the East.
Communication of the 382nd Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops' Conference
Statistical data concerning abuse of minors by some clerics, family values and celebration of Sunday, protection of human life and the issue of attempts to interfere in the organization of religion classes at school - were the topics of the 382nd Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, which ended on March 14 in Warsaw. In addition to the Communication summarizing the Assembly, the bishops issued two positions: on the celebration of Sunday and on the so-called LGBT-Carta.
