The Week in Summary (November 10-16)
The celebration of the 101st anniversary of Poland regaining independence was the most important event of this week. During the Eucharist in the Temple of Divine Providence, the Candle of Independence was lit, which was offered to Warsaw by Pius IX in 1867 when Poland was under the partitions. He wished that it would be lit only when Poland was free.

The week began with a press conference organized by the “Work of the New Millennium” Foundation during which the 19th Pope’s Day was presented. It will take place on Sunday, October 13, under the motto: “Rise, Let Us Be On Our Way”. “The uniqueness of this year’s Pope’s Day lies in the fact that we celebrate it in the year in which the universal Church and the Church in Poland is celebrating the 100th anniversary of John Paul II’s birth” – said card. The President of the Polish Episcopate encourages to participate in parliamentary elections
Catholics cannot support programs that promote abortion, try to redefine the institution of marriage, try to limit the rights of parents in the area of responsibility for raising their children, or promote demoralization of children and young people. They cannot vote for a candidate who expresses views that raise objections from a moral point of view or are risky from a political point of view - emphasized Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, in “The Word Before Parliamentary Elections”.

- On behalf of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, we thank the organizers of the civic legislative initiative “Halt abortion”, volunteers collecting signatures, 830,000 of citizens who have signed up to this draft law and all the parliamentarians who – by voting for life – supported this civic draft law. We trust that soon the legal guarantees to protect the lives of the weakest will be increased by stopping eugenic abortion – to quote from the Communication of the Presidium of the Polish Bishops’ Conference from January 11, 2018.
Appeal of the Presidium of the Polish Bishops’ Conference on stopping eugenic abortion
There will soon be proceeded the civic legislative initiative “Halt Abortion”, which presupposes the removal of the possibility of killing a child due to the suspicion of disability or illness (eugenic abortion). The Polish Bishops’ Conference from the beginning supports this initiative as an important step to full protection of life and thanks some 830,000 Polish citizens who have signed the draft law.

The first National Day of Reading the Holy Scriptures, the first document of the Episcopate devoted entirely to patriotism, the first Day of the Poor - listed the President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Stanislaw Gadecki, speaking about new initiatives that appeared in the Church in 2017.
