The Week in Summary (September 29-October 5)
The week began with a press conference organized by the “Work of the New Millennium” Foundation during which the 19th Pope’s Day was presented. It will take place on Sunday, October 13, under the motto: “Rise, Let Us Be On Our Way”. “The uniqueness of this year’s Pope’s Day lies in the fact that we celebrate it in the year in which the universal Church and the Church in Poland is celebrating the 100th anniversary of John Paul II’s birth” – said card. Pope’s Day: Several thousand young people granted with scholarships
On the 102nd anniversary of the last Fatima apparition, the 19th Pope’s Day was celebrated in Poland under the motto “Rise! Let Us Be On Our Way”, organized by the “Work of the New Millennium” Foundation, which collects funds for scholarships for talented and unprivileged youth from small towns. During the nineteen years of its activity, the Foundation has taken care of several thousand young people from all over Poland in accordance with Pope Wojtyła’s call to “a new imagination of mercy”.
The 386th Plenary Assembly of the Polish Episcopate at Jasna Góra
The 30th anniversary of catechesis at school, pastoral challenges of the Church in Poland and protection of children and youth against sexual abuse in the Church will be the main topics of the 386th Plenary Assembly of the Polish Bishops’ Conference - announced the Secretary General of the Polish Bishops’ Conference Bishop Artur G. Miziński. The meeting will be held from 27 to 29 August at Jasna Góra. On the eve of the meeting, the bishops will take part in the celebration of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Częstochowa.
All dioceses in Poland celebrated the 104th World Day of Migrants and Refugees
The Church in Poland has actively participated in celebration of the World Day of Migrants and Refugees on Sunday, January 14. In many churches throughout the country there were masses celebrated according form “For Refugees and Exiles”. The Polish Bishops’ Conference appealed to the faithful to engage in specific assistance to migrants from the Middle East and Ukraine. There are 1.5 Million Ukrainian refugees living in Poland.
